Properties of Choline and Ethanolamine Kinases Paritally Purified from Rat Liver Supernatant.
Choline and ethanolamine kinases were partially purified from rat liver homogenate by 30 fold and 20 fold, respectively. Though the separation of two enzymes were not achieved, some properties were observed the suggesting possibility that different enzymes or active centers are involved in the phosphorylation of choline and ethanolamin. An apparent Michaelis constant (Km) for choline was 0.23 mM and for ethanolamine was 5mM. Both enzymes showed nearly the same values of maximal velocities or Km for ATP. However, some structural analogues of choline or ethanolamine affected choline and ethanolamine kinase activities in somewhat different manners.departmental bulletin pape
Phospholipase C Activity Obtained from the Exotoxin of Pseudomonas fluoresceus.
A strain of Ps. fluorescens which secretes phospholipase C into a culture medium was accidentally found in our laboratory. The correlation between the growth of bacteria and phospholipase C production was studied and the increase of the activity in the growth medium was observed up to 96 h. The enzyme preparation partially purified with ammonium sulfate precipitation, showed high phospholipase C activity, i. e. most of lecithin was converted to diglyderide. The activity was optimum at pH 5.0. Michaelis constant was 44μM and maximal velocity was 250n moles/mg protein/h.departmental bulletin pape
Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov State due to Antisymmetric Spin-Orbit-Coupling in Noncentrosymmetric Superconductivity CePtSi
When the inversion symmetry is broken, the spin-orbit coupling reduces the
transition temperature of some types of spin triplet superconductivity, which
is similar to the case that magnetic field reduces the spin singlet
superconductivity due to Zeeman splitting. It is well known that
Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state of spin singlet superconductivity
is realized near the Pauli limit (or Chandrasekhar-Clogston limit) of external
magnetic field. In FFLO state the amplitude of the order parameter is not
uniform in space. In this paper we study the FFLO state in the spin triplet
superconductivity in the absence of magnetic field due to the spin-orbit
coupling. Although the FFLO state is not realized in the simple model with
spherical Fermi surface, it will be stabilized if some condition is favorable
for it. We discuss the possibility of FFLO state in CePtSi in the absence
of external magnetic field.Comment: 2 pages, 1 figure, M2S-HTSC VII

Nocturnal emergency department visits, duration of symptoms and risk of hospitalisation among adults with asthma exacerbations: a multicentre observational study
Objectives: We sought to compare the characteristics of patients with asthma presenting to the emergency department (ED) during the night-time with those of patients presenting at other times of the day, and to determine whether the time of ED presentation is associated with the risk of hospitalisation. Design and setting A multicentre chart review study of 23 EDs across Japan. Participants: Patients aged 18–54 years with a history of physician-diagnosed asthma, presented to the ED between January 2009 and December 2011 Outcome measures The outcome of interest was hospitalisation, including admissions to an observation unit, inpatient unit and intensive care unit. Results: Among the 1354 patients (30.1% in the night-time group vs 69.9% in the other time group) included in this study, the median age was 34 years and ∼40% were male. Overall 145 patients (10.7%) were hospitalised. Patients in the night-time group were more likely to have a shorter duration of symptoms (≤3 hours) before ED presentation than those in the other time group (25.9% in night-time vs 13.4% in other times; p0.05). Similarly, the risk of hospitalisation did not differ between the two groups (11.3% in night-time vs 10.5% in other times; p=0.65). In a multivariable model adjusting for potential confounders, the risk of hospitalisation in the night-time group was not statistically different from the other time group (OR, 1.10; 95% CI 0.74 to 1.61; p=0.63). Conclusions: This multicentre study in Japan demonstrated no significant difference in the risk of hospitalisations according to the time of ED presentation
Clinical usefulness of super high-resolution liquid crystal displays using independent sub-pixel driving technology
金沢大学医薬保健研究域保健学系We have developed and reported super-high resolution liquid crystal displays (SHR-LCDs) using a new resolution enhancement technology of the independent sub-pixel driving (ISD) that utilizes three sub-pixels contained in each pixel element. This technology realizes the three-times resolution enhancement of monochrome LCDs. A 15 mega-pixel (MP) SHR-LCD out of a 5MP LCD and a 9MP SHR-LCD out of a 3MP LCD, for example, are realized by this technology, which improves the depiction ability of detailed image shapes such as micro-calcifications of a mammography. Furthermore, the ISD technology brings not only resolution enhancement but also noise reduction effect by the high-frequency data sampling in displaying the clinical images. In this study, we have investigated the clinical efficacy of the SHR-LCDs by means of phantom observation studies and blind observer comparison studies using clinical mammography images performed by radiologists. We used a conventional 5MP LCD for a comparison of a 15MP SHR-LCD and a 9MP SHR-LCD to evaluate their efficacy. From the results of the studies, it was indicated that the SHR-LCDs using the ISD technology had the excellent ability to display the high-resolution digital mammography images. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg
ノーベル ブンガク ショウ ジュショウ スピーチ ノ エイニチ ホンヤク ニ オケル ホンヤク ホウリャク ニ カンスル コウサツ
In recent years, Haruki Murakami has been often mentioned as a possible recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature. However, in 2016, Bob Dylan, an American singersongwriter, was awarded the literature prize. In the following year, Kazuo Ishiguro, a Japanese-born British novelist, received the prize. Their acceptance speeches were translated into Japanese and distributed via newspapers and music information websites. Introducing such authors with different cultural backgrounds as these laureates provides people with access to world literature. Translations of the speeches have an important role in the social act. This paper attempts to explore strategies for translating into Japanese from the acceptance speeches for the Nobel Prize in Literature in English. Specifically, the analysis of translation shifts occurring between the source and target texts reveals which strategies translators select to overcome differences in language, textual structure, and sociocultural context, and to achieve translation equivalence. It can also identify the purpose (skopos) of translating, target readers, and translation tendencies for the speeches, enabling comparison between translations from the newspapers and music information sites. Moreover, the acceptance speeches for the Nobel Prize are an official speech of which text type is determined depending on the contents of the speeches. The target readers are varied among the media. These factors influence the purpose of translating and determine which translation shifts or strategies to be selected by translators. The translation shifts or strategies determined by the translators are considered to have effects on the target readers. Especially, the shifts determined optionally by them are considered to have more ef fects on the readers than those determined inevitably by them. In this study, translation shifts are collected for the analysis from translations for the acceptance speeches by Bob Dylan and Kazuo Ishiguro. Translating the speeches is a social act of connecting target readers to world language. Further research is needed to see if these tendencies are applicable to other acceptance speeches for the Nobel Prize in Literature, and to examine factors that have effects on the target readers from the viewpoint of social aspect of translation equivalence
